Garland, TX dentist provides dental bridge treatment

Dental Bridge from dentist in Garland Similar to how a roadway bridge spans a river or ravine, a dental bridge closes a gap in your smile. Garland, TX dentist, Dr. Sakunthala Boppana recommends this time-tested tooth replacement method for the patient who is not a candidate for or does not want dental implants.

Design of a dental bridge

A bridge holds one or more pontics - artificial teeth - in the gap left by missing teeth. There are several variations in dental bridges:
  • Traditional bridge - made of ceramic, or porcelain fused to metal. Teeth on either side of the space (called abutment teeth) are reduced and fitted with crowns. These crowns anchor up to three pontics.
  • Maryland bridge - also called a resin-bonded bridge. This type has wings bonded to existing teeth for support.
  • Cantilever bridge - for missing teeth at the back of the arch where there is only one abutment tooth.
  • Implant-supported bridge - Up to five consecutive missing teeth can be replaced with just two dental implants supporting a three-tooth bridge. In this situation, healthy adjacent teeth are not impacted by crowns.

The procedure

A traditional bridge requires just two dental visits. At the first, teeth are prepared for crowns and impressions are taken of the mouth. This information goes to a dental laboratory, along with instructions on shading to ensure the bridge matches your natural teeth. Prepped teeth are protected with interim crowns while your bridge is being fabricated. You return in about two weeks to have temporaries removed and the bridge cemented into place.

Dental bridge cost

Cost depends on the number of artificial teeth and crowns, materials used, fabrication process, and complexity of placement. A dental bridge is typically more affordable initially than multiple dental implants, although implants can last a lifetime. Many insurance plans cover all or a portion of the cost of a dental bridge. In addition, we offer low or zero-interest treatment financing through CareCredit, and with our in-office Plan for Health, you can save up to 30 percent on the cost of a bridge.
